Kathy Coulehan  A lifelong swimmer, Kathy has been involved in many different aspects of the sports, as a lifeguard, a swim instructor, triathlete, and now as a coach.  Although this isn’t her first coaching job.  Kathy volunteered with Guam Special Olympics for twelve years, starting as a coach and working her way up to Aquatics Director.   She has a Level II certification from the American Swim Coaches Association.  Additionally, Kathy is a certified Masters Swim coach.

You can’t miss her at practice, as she works out in the water alongside her team.  Every day. Every practice.  “There’s nothing that improves a sloppy stroke like having the coach swim next to or underneath you,” she says.  But there’s another reason, Kathy continues to compete. “I need all that practice as much as the kids do.” She still competes in the over 40 age group.  In 2007 she won third place in state for her 400 IM.

Working with the bronze group is what she calls a perfect fit.  “They’re young enough to where I can still swim faster than they can.  When they beat the coach, that’s a reason for celebration—and to kick them upstairs to the silver group.”

A broadcast journalist for two decades, Coulehan is now a bilingual elementary school teacher. Her son Duval swims for the team.
